The CCMC CCM® (Certified Case Manager) exam is offered by the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC) for professionals in case management. This certification confirms your ability to provide high-quality case management services, essential for roles in healthcare settings, insurance companies, and social services.
Eligibility requires a current, active, and unrestricted license or certification in a relevant healthcare discipline and at least 12 months of full-time case management experience. Candidates can also qualify with a bachelor's or higher degree in a health or human services field and 24 months of experience in case management.
The CCM® exam evaluates candidates across five core knowledge domains essential to effective case management practice. These domains include Care Delivery and Reimbursement Methods, which constitutes 28% of the exam and covers topics such as care models, reimbursement methodologies, and care transitions. Psychosocial Concepts and Support Systems, making up 25% of the exam, involves understanding client behavior, support systems, and community resources. Quality and Outcomes Evaluation and Measurements account for 19% of the exam and focus on quality indicators, data interpretation, and program evaluation. Rehabilitation Concepts and Strategies cover 11% of the exam, emphasizing rehabilitation services and vocational aspects of disability. Finally, Ethical, Legal, and Practice Standards, comprising 17% of the exam, address ethical considerations, legal regulations, and professional standards in case management.
The exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions, 150 of which are scored and 30 unscored, with a time limit of 3.5 hours. Once certified, the CCM® credential is valid for five years, and recertification can be achieved through continuing education or re-examination.
