The ANCC MEDSURG-BC™ exam is for nurses aiming to become certified in medical-surgical nursing, one of the most widely practiced nursing specialties. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) offers this certification to validate your expertise in providing care to adult patients with a wide range of medical conditions.
Eligibility requires a current RN license, two years of full-time nursing experience, and a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice in medical-surgical nursing. Additionally, you must complete 30 hours of continuing education in the specialty within the last three years.
The MEDSURG-BC™ exam is divided into three key subjects that reflect the broad scope of medical-surgical nursing. These sections include Assessment and Diagnosis; Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation; Professional Role. Each section is designed to evaluate your competency in critical areas such as patient assessment, care planning, and implementation, as well as your ability to evaluate patient outcomes and promote health education. The exam also assesses your understanding of the professional responsibilities and ethical considerations inherent in medical-surgical nursing. A strong understanding of these sections is essential for successfully achieving the certification and demonstrating your comprehensive knowledge in this specialty.
The exam includes 150 questions, with 125 being scored and 25 unscored, and has a 3.5-hour time limit. A passing score is typically around 350 out of 500 points. The MEDSURG-BC™ credential is valid for five years, with recertification options available through continuing education or re-examination.

I used this app primarily to study for the ANCC Med-Surg exam and I feel the material and questions were similar to that on the actual exam. The app was very easy to use and offered everything you needed to study. I liked how it allowed you to flag questions, focus and test on weakest subjects and gave a whole 1500 questions bank. The app really helped in guiding me to the areas I needed to work on. Definitely would recommend this to anyone looking to get certified.
