Start your EMS career path with the ultimate preparation for the EMR exam.
The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) exam is the entry-level certification offered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT®). This certification is intended for individuals who wish to provide immediate lifesaving care while waiting for higher-level EMS providers to arrive. EMRs are often the first on the scene and must be able to perform basic interventions to save lives.
To be eligible, candidates must complete a state-approved EMR training program. The EMR exam is a computer-based test (CBT), consisting of 90 to 110 multiple-choice questions. The time allotted for the exam is 1 hour and 45 minutes. Like other NREMT exams, the EMR test is adaptive, adjusting the difficulty of questions based on the candidate’s responses. A passing score is required to become certified, with the certification being valid for two years. Recertification requires continuing education or retaking the exam.
