The International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC) offers the Certified Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C®) exam. It is designed for paramedics who work in critical care environments, including air and ground transport and intensive care units. This certification validates the advanced knowledge and skills required to care for critically ill or injured patients during transport.
To be eligible, candidates must be certified as a paramedic and have experience or training in critical care. The exam consists of 125 multiple-choice questions, and candidates have 2.5 hours to complete it. Topics covered include advanced airway management, pharmacology, hemodynamic monitoring, and special considerations for various patient populations. A passing score is typically required to obtain the CCP-C® certification, valid for four years. Renewal involves continuing education or retaking the exam to demonstrate ongoing proficiency in critical care.
