Elevate your nursing career and make a lasting impact on pediatric patients by passing the CPN® exam.
The PNCB Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN®) exam is designed for nurses seeking certification in pediatric nursing. Offered by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB), this certification validates your expertise in providing care to pediatric patients in various healthcare settings.
In the Health Promotion section, nurses are tested on their ability to provide anticipatory guidance, education, and tailored health promotion activities across various pediatric age groups, focusing on topics like growth and development, injury prevention, nutrition, and psychosocial stressors. The Assessment section evaluates the nurse's skills in conducting thorough physical and psychosocial assessments, including recognizing developmental milestones, assessing pain and nutritional status, and identifying signs of maltreatment or neglect. The Planning and Management section addresses acute and chronic care management, psychosocial care, and palliative/end-of-life care, emphasizing the development and implementation of individualized nursing care plans. Finally, the Professional Responsibilities section covers advocacy, ethical and legal concerns, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Throughout the exam, common threads such as safety, growth and development, and evidence-based practice are woven into the questions.
Eligibility requires a current RN license and at least 1,800 hours of pediatric nursing experience within the past two years. The exam includes 175 multiple-choice questions, 150 of which are scored and 25 unscored, with a time limit of 3 hours. The CPN® credential is valid for one year, with recertification available through continuing education or re-examination.
