Advance your nursing career and become a trusted advocate for the elderly with effective prep for the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP exam.
The ANCC AGPCNP-BC exam, administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), is for nurses seeking to become certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners. This certification validates your expertise in providing primary care to adult and older adult populations.
Eligibility requires completing a graduate program in adult-gerontology primary care and holding a current RN license; the program must be accredited by the CCNE or ACEN.
The AGPCNP-BC exam is structured around three key subjects: Patient Assessment Process, Plan of Care, and Professional Practice. These subjects cover the full scope of primary care practice for adult and geriatric populations. The questions assess your ability to apply clinical knowledge in real-world scenarios, focusing on common and complex conditions.
The exam consists of 150 questions, including 125 scored and 25 unscored questions, with a 3.5-hour time limit. Scores are calculated based on the number of correctly answered questions out of the 125 scored items. The ANCC uses a scaled scoring system, where your raw score (number of correct answers) is converted to a scaled score. This allows for consistency across different exam versions. You'll receive an official score report immediately after the exam, indicating whether you passed or failed. The AGPCNP-BC credential is valid for five years, and recertification is available through continuing education or re-examination.
