The ANCC NE-BC® exam, offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), is designed for nurses seeking certification as Nurse Executives. This certification validates your ability to lead and manage nursing teams in healthcare settings, focusing on key areas such as organizational leadership, financial management, and quality improvement.
Eligibility requires a current RN license, a bachelor’s degree in nursing or a higher nursing degree, and at least 2,000 hours of experience in a nurse executive role within the last three years. Additionally, candidates must have completed 30 hours of continuing education in nursing management within the last three years.
The ANCC NE-BC® exam covers four key subjects that are critical for effective nurse leadership. Human Resource Management focuses on optimizing staff performance, fostering professional development, and ensuring compliance with labor laws. Quality and Safety examines strategies to enhance patient care, minimize risks, and maintain high standards in healthcare practices. Business Management involves financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation to ensure the efficient operation of healthcare facilities. Finally, Health Care Delivery explores the organization and coordination of care, emphasizing the importance of patient-centered approaches and effective communication within healthcare teams.
The exam consists of 175 questions, 150 of which are scored and 25 unscored, with a 3.5-hour time limit. A passing score typically requires around 350 out of 500 points. The NE-BC® credential is valid for five years; renewal is available through continuing education or re-examination.
