Elevate your career in case management and make a lasting
impact on lives by earning the prestigious CCM® certification.
The CCMC CCM® (Certified Case Manager) exam is administered by the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC) and is recognized as the standard of excellence in case management. Earning the CCM® demonstrates your expertise in facilitating high-quality client care and effectively navigating complex reimbursement and service delivery systems—skills that are essential for case managers across healthcare settings, insurance companies, community agencies, and other related fields.
To be eligible for the exam, candidates must meet two key criteria related to education/licensure and professional experience. First, they must either hold a current, active, and unrestricted license or certification in a health or human services discipline that allows for independent practice or have a bachelor’s or graduate degree in a health or human services field. Second, regarding professional experience, candidates must have completed at least 12 months of full-time case management employment if they are licensed or certified in a health or human services discipline. Alternatively, those who qualify via a bachelor’s (or higher) degree in a health or human services field must have completed 24 months of full-time case management employment. Candidates should verify specific details and documentation requirements in the current Certification Guide.
The CCM® exam evaluates competence across six core knowledge domains identified by CCMC’s latest role and function study. While CCMC periodically updates these domains and their percentage weightings based on emerging trends in case management, the 2025 blueprint organizes the exam into the following six domains: Care Management (30%), Reimbursement Methods (12%), Psychosocial Concepts & Support Systems (20%), Quality & Outcomes Evaluation & Measurements (10%), Rehabilitation & Return to Work (10%), Ethical, Legal & Practice Standards (18%). The exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions (150 scored and 30 pretest items). Candidates have 3 hours to complete the test, which can be taken at authorized testing centers or via remote proctoring (when available).
