The Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C®) is also administered by the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC). This exam is aimed at paramedics who specialize in providing medical care in the air transport environment. The FP-C® credential is recognized as a standard for flight paramedics, ensuring they possess the necessary skills to manage critically ill or injured patients during flight.
Candidates must be certified paramedics with experience or training in air medical transport to be eligible for this exam. The FP-C® exam comprises 110 multiple-choice questions with a 2.5-hour time limit. The exam tests knowledge in areas such as advanced airway management, physiology of flight, trauma, and medical emergencies unique to the air transport setting. A passing score is required to earn the FP-C® credential, which remains valid for four years. Recertification can be achieved through continuing education or by retaking the exam.
