The SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) exam is also offered by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and is intended for senior HR professionals who develop strategies, lead the HR function, foster influence in the community, analyze performance metrics, and align HR strategies with organizational goals. The SHRM-SCP is ideal for professionals with significant experience in HR who are responsible for leadership and strategic roles.
The SHRM-SCP exam focuses on advanced HR leadership and strategy, testing candidates on their ability to develop and implement HR policies that align with organizational goals. Major areas covered include talent management, succession planning, leadership development, and organizational change. The exam also evaluates candidates’ ability to influence senior leadership, manage complex workforce issues, and use metrics to assess HR effectiveness. Situational judgment questions are used to test candidates' strategic decision-making skills in various HR scenarios, such as handling mergers, acquisitions, or significant organizational changes.
Eligibility for the SHRM-SCP requires candidates to have three to six years of HR-related experience, depending on their level of education. Candidates have 3 hours and 40 minutes divided into two 110-minute sections to answer a total of 134 multiple-choice questions. There are 80 stand-alone knowledge-based questions, and 54 are scenario-based situational judgment items. The certification is valid for three years and must be renewed through earning 60 PDCs.
